Tulip Street Dental Holland, Michigan Book a visit

The dentist you
stop dreading.

Two dentists, three hygienists and the two people who actually run the place. Longer appointments on purpose, prices told to you before they happen, and nobody here will ever ask why you waited so long to come in.

◍ Most insurance taken ◍ Saturday mornings ◍ Kids welcome, loudly

What a visit costs, before you sit down

Dentistry gets a bad name for surprise invoices. Ours are on the wall and on this page.

New patient

$139

Exam, x-rays and a clean. About an hour. Waived if you have insurance that covers preventive care, which most do.

Check-up and clean

$96

Every six months for most people, more often if your gums want it. We will tell you which you are.

Something hurts

$79

Emergency exam and an x-ray, credited against the treatment if you go ahead the same day. Ring rather than booking online.

Four rooms, all with a window. The one at the end is the quiet room.

Longer appointments, on purpose

Most practices book a clean at thirty minutes. We book forty-five. It costs us about four patients a week and it is the single reason people say this place does not feel like a conveyor belt.

It also means the hygienist has time to show you the spot you keep missing rather than just writing it in your notes.

Dr. Nadia Okonkwo

General and children's dentistry · 14 years in practice

Did her residency in a hospital pediatric clinic, which is where she learned that the appointment starts in the waiting room, not the chair. Sees most of the practice's under-tens and is the person who will get on the floor to do it.

Will absolutely let a nervous six-year-old count her teeth first.

Hygienist · RDH

Marisol Reyes

Periodontal care and anxious adults · 12 years in practice

Specializes in the patients who have not been to a dentist in a decade and are braced for a lecture. Does not give the lecture. Books longer appointments on purpose so nobody has to feel hurried.

Keeps a hand-signal agreement with every patient: raise a hand and she stops.

Scheduling and new patients · 4 years in practice

The voice on the phone. Holds the cancellation list, which is how most people get in sooner than the website says, and is unreasonably good at remembering which patients hate morning appointments.

Keeps the good stickers behind the desk. Adults may also have one.

Bringing a child?

There is a whole corner of this site for them — a proper two-minute brushing timer, a game about which snacks sit on teeth, and the answer to when will my tooth fall out.
